Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) is one of
the basic necessities of life. Safe water is
especially critical for the most vulnerable to
water-related diseases. According to United
Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), 20 to 40 %
beds are occupied in the hospitals of Pakistan
by patients suffering from water related
diseases. Unfortunately, most of the water
sources are contaminated and there is no proper
mechanism exits whereby poor people could get
clean water (both biologically and
chemically treated). According to another report
in Pakistan one-quarter of all people attending
hospitals are ill from water-related diseases as
a result of poor sanitation and lack of safe
drinking water
facilities. Countries providing clean water and
sanitation greatly reduce child mortality. To
contribute to the Millennium Development Goal
for health, Manzil Organization Balochistan
keeps it one of its
objectives.To
strive for the provisions of safe drinking
water, good sanitation and hygienic practices.
We work in impoverished areas to provide potable
water and adequate sanitation to decrease water
borne diseases, improve health, and lessen the
burden on women and children by reducing the
distance to water collection points.
Manzil Organization Balochistan's Water,
Sanitation & Hygiene projects help communities
to obtain adequate supplies of safe drinking
water and sanitation facilities by construction
of water supply schemes, installation &
re-habilitation of communal hand pumps and tube
wells, re-construction/construction of household
latrines. These initiatives become sustainable
as WASH community members are trained to repair
and maintain hand pumps and water sources, and
serve on water and sanitation committees that
oversee community improvements. Manzil
Organization Balochistan also initiates hygiene
education for children, women and adults, by
Distribution of Hygiene Kits, conduct of Hygiene
Awareness Sessions, Installation of Hand Washing
& Bathing Places to prevent disease. Our WASH
program provides proficiency and interventions,
aimed at saving lives and reducing illness
through access to safe water, adequate
sanitation, and improved hygiene.
